Musica! Musica!

I just added a new gallery to my site, for live music photography.  Since there are often many restrictions about taking professional equipment into concerts, most of the recent photos in this gallery are taken on my non-professional stuff.  What?  You didn't even know I owned a non-professional camera?  Truth be told, I had to buy one specifically for this purpose.

Since I now officially live in a place where concerts happen (sorry RGV!), I got a slightly-higher-end-consumer-level-non-professional Canon just before the Nine Inch Nails Wave Goodbye concerts at the end of August.

I am happy with the camera for what it is, but what it is NOT is professional. The low-light sensitivity is pretty good for the level of camera, but sometimes in the lower-light moments of a concert, I can feel myself longing for a nice 85mm f/1.2L.

Anyway, enjoy the new galleryhttp://www.emilyanngarcia.com/galleries/live-music/

Twins

When I was young, I read a lot of the Sweet Valley High books and constantly wished that I was a twin.  Other than those times, I never really wanted siblings -- I was pretty sure I had it pretty good being an only child.

Spending time photographing Hannah and Esther made me remember why I wanted a twin so long ago.  Their closeness is very clear and they are very fun to be around!  It was also a completely perfect and gorgeous autumn day here in Chicago, which made it all the better. We spent time at the lakefront and then at the Japanese Gardens by the Museum of Science and Industry.  Both locations were perfect.

I got lots of photos in their session, so I will be sure to post some more of my faves as I get through my editing!

L&A - Part II, Boy I like doing Photobooths

Some of you may have been at weddings/parties where I set up a photobooth.  Every since the first time (at my housewarming party in Weslaco), it has always been successful.  Sometimes people get more into it than other times, but it is always an excellent way to get guests involved in the memory making.

Below is a great one from Lauren & Andy's second reception in Cleveland.

Lauren & Andy - Part I

I am off to Cleveland today to shoot Lauren & Andy's wedding reception, Part II, the sequel.

Lauren and Andy got married in a small family ceremony in Canada at the beginning of the month, and are having/had two receptions here in the US.  Below are a couple photos from my trip to San Diego last weekend.  Tonight's reception is in the Cleveland zoo and I am really looking forward to hanging out with the tigers during the party!

In other news, my move to Chicago went very well and I love love love my new home!

engagement

As many of you know, I will be moving to Chicago in the next few weeks.  So far this summer (being defined in Texas as starting mid-April) has been a whirlwind for me with work (both the photo and the non-photo stuff).  Recently I was granted the opportunity to photograph my friends Robert and Rachel for their engagement session (congrats again!).  This was a priority for me to do before moving to Chicago and I am very happy that we managed to do it.

On Sunday, we jumped around to several different locations around town and I have to say that I quite happy with the result!

Just as a note: Climbing trees is much harder in your late 20s than it was as a child. :)
