engagement

As many of you know, I will be moving to Chicago in the next few weeks.  So far this summer (being defined in Texas as starting mid-April) has been a whirlwind for me with work (both the photo and the non-photo stuff).  Recently I was granted the opportunity to photograph my friends Robert and Rachel for their engagement session (congrats again!).  This was a priority for me to do before moving to Chicago and I am very happy that we managed to do it.

On Sunday, we jumped around to several different locations around town and I have to say that I quite happy with the result!

Just as a note: Climbing trees is much harder in your late 20s than it was as a child. :)

Absence

Well, there is no use denying my absense.  Much has been going on in my life -- including an impending move, a job transition and a PUPPY.  You can tell which of these I am most excited about, can't you?  Well, that's not entirely accurate, but the puppy sure is cute.

I have still been taking photos, but it is probably not entirely unsurprising that it has not quite ended up being daily.  I could probably fudge a couple dates and pretend I'd kept up, but it is not really in my nature.  The idea behind doing a 365 project is a way to get me to be thinking about photography daily -- and to hopefully force me out of my comfort zones in an attempt to try new things and get more interesting photos.

I think the project does do that, but it's not quite working for due to the frequency and the abysmal state of my apartment (aka most easily accessible backdrop).  So I am certainly not giving up on photography or even self-portraits, but I am trying to come up with a new angle on the regularly-taken-photo project that will help me feel a bit more a spark of creativity.  Suggestions are welcome if anyone has them!

I will try to keep you all updated as my future plans come to fruition... for now, those of you who live in Chicago should note you may be seeing a lot more of me starting this summer!

teenaged boys

Over the winter holiday, my cousin was in town.  Apparently he neglected to tell his mother when school photos were taken, so she asked me to take some of him while they were visiting.  Now, out of all the photos I've ever taken, I have never seriously photographed a teenaged boy.  What do they want to look like?  I have photographed women of all ages, grade-school aged boys and younger, and 20-something men and older.  But what does a sixteen year old boy hope to acheive in his photos?

I didn't feel too much pressure from this shoot since I was more doing it for his mother and I had a pretty good idea what she wanted (basically his school photos), but he'll be a senior soon and they'll want me to do his senior portraits.

The photos below were taken in about 15 minutes one early evening.  Both he and his parents were happy.  But I need more ideas if I'll be doing more photos of him in the future.  Anyone have anything to say about how to make a teenaged boy look "cool"?

Day 030: So The Story Fits

I admit, I've been busy and a little scattered and not exactly attentive to my audience.  This doesn't mean I've falled off the project bandwagon, just the posting bandwagon.  I'm devoting this weekend to getting it all together, though (in more ways than just my 365 project), and so we should be back on track shortly.  Thanks for sticking around :)
